Advisor marketplaces are evolving into learning infrastructure

Advisor marketplaces are evolving into learning infrastructure

Warmer and FinanceHQ are building the data, intelligence, and feedback layers for better advisor-client matches

Finding the right financial advisor should be easier than it is.

There are tens of thousands of advisory firms and hundreds of thousands of financial advisors serving tens of millions of Americans. The challenge is not a lack of advisors, or a lack of interest. The challenge is helping more people find—and feel confident in—the right fit.

Most people do not know exactly what kind of help they need. They may be preparing for retirement, navigating stock compensation, selling a business, receiving an inheritance, caring for aging parents, managing taxes, or simply realizing that their financial life has become too important to manage alone.

They know the stakes are high. They know trust matters. But they are often left to evaluate advisors using incomplete signals: a referral from a friend, a list of names on a website, a credential, a search result, or a brand name.

None of it is enough. None of it gives a consumer the full picture of what it would actually be like to work with that advisor.

We know this problem well. We are founders and alumni of Betterment, where we helped build one of the first scaled digital advice platforms. At Betterment, we saw how technology could expand access to better financial decision-making. At Warmer and FinanceHQ, we are applying that experience to the next frontier: helping people hire the right human advisor.

Here’s the simple reason for bringing Warmer and FinanceHQ together: millions of people need better financial advice, and thousands of great advisors are ready to help them, but the existing systems do not connect them well enough.

With the tools now available — better data, AI-powered search and matching, more thoughtful consumer guidance, and feedback from real introductions — we believe advisor-client matching can become dramatically more systematic, specific, and effective at scale.

Our re-founding in a rapidly evolving category

Today, we are pleased to share that Warmer has acquired FinanceHQ. We see this as a re-founding: Warmer and FinanceHQ are joining forces because the matching problem is enormous and urgent. Consumers want more context. Advisors want better-fit opportunities. And the market needs infrastructure that can learn from what happens after the introduction.

We are keeping and investing in the FinanceHQ brand because it already represents something important: a high-quality matching experience for consumers and a trusted growth channel for advisors. FinanceHQ has helped tens of thousands of consumers connect with carefully matched, high-quality advisors, and we believe it can become even stronger with Warmer’s AI, product, and data infrastructure behind it.

Together, we are building a system that can help consumers understand what kind of advisor they need, discover and compare advisors, get matched, book or request introductions, evaluate fit after meetings, and move forward with confidence.

For advisors, it means better-fit opportunities and more efficient growth.

The core idea is simple:

Consumers need more context before choosing.

Advisors need better-fit opportunities.

The market needs a feedback loop that learns from outcomes.

Why the old marketplace model stops too early

Advisor marketplaces and directories have helped more people find more advisors. Lead-generation platforms have helped firms grow. These were important steps forward.

But the core matching problem remains unsolved.

How do you help a person find the advisor who is actually right for them?

That requires understanding the consumer’s needs, the advisor’s strengths, the nature of the relationship, and what happens after the introduction.

Did the meeting happen? Was there trust? Was there fit? Did the client move forward? Did the relationship work?

Some marketplaces stop at the introduction.

In advice, and advisor matching, the introduction is only the beginning.

The consumer problem is the advisor problem

The same problem that frustrates consumers frustrates advisors.

When consumers do not know what kind of help they need, advisors receive more noise. They spend more time sorting through low-intent inquiries, more time explaining the basics, and more time trying to determine whether there is a fit.

Traditional lead generation sometimes makes this worse. Advisors may pay for volume without enough context. They may compete for attention against firms with very different budgets, models, and ideal clients. They may receive prospects who are not ready, or not clear on why they were introduced in the first place.

That this works at all is a testament to the high levels of demand for advice.

Better matching infrastructure should help both sides.

Advisors should receive warmer introductions: prospects who understand why they are meeting, have a clearer sense of what they need, and are more likely to convert.

The goal is better conversion, lower wasted effort, and business models that work for both scaled firms and niche advisors.

AI is only as good as the loop it learns from

AI changes what advisor matching can become, but AI alone is not enough.

A model can summarize advisor profiles, surface specialties, interpret filings, and help consumers explain what they need. That is useful. But better matching requires more than a prettier search experience or a larger database.

It requires a feedback loop.

A great advisor match depends on what happens after the recommendation. Did the consumer understand why the advisor was suggested? Did they book a meeting? Did the meeting happen? Did the advisor feel like a fit? Did the consumer move forward? Did the relationship work?

Over time, we believe that loop should go deeper.

With consent, Warmer and FinanceHQ can help summarize introductory advisor conversations, giving consumers a clearer record of what was discussed, what questions were answered, and how the relationship might feel. That can help consumers compare fit after the meeting, know better what to expect before it, and move forward with confidence.

It can also help the system learn. Not from abstract clicks or generic profiles alone, but from real conversations and outcomes: what consumers ask, what advisors explain, where trust is built, where confusion remains, and which introductions lead to stronger relationships.

For advisors, the goal is not black-box scoring, but interpretation and insights: better context, better follow-up, and a learning system that understands which relationships are likely to work.

Making niche expertise discoverable

One independent advisor said to me during a recent onboarding call:

I love how you’re using the AI chat interface. I can already see it working — I found myself.
It’s going to help people discover niche advisors like me.

That is why this moment matters.

There are many excellent advisors who are hard to find through traditional search tools. Some specialize in complicated oil and gas holdings. Some know the nuances of Connecticut taxes. Some help retirees relocate to Florida or move to the U.S. from abroad. Some help founders, divorcees, widows, inheritance recipients, or trial-award recipients navigate the financial and emotional complexity of major life transitions.

Many are not trying to be the biggest. They are trying to serve the right clients extremely well.

Better matching helps those advisors get discovered.

And it helps consumers understand why an advisor may be right for them.

A closed-loop matching system cannot be built from public profiles, latent demand, or innovation alone. It needs real advisors, real consumers, real introductions, and real outcomes.

Why Warmer and FinanceHQ are a perfect match

Warmer has acquired FinanceHQ as part of this re-founding — and we are keeping and investing in the FinanceHQ brand.

FinanceHQ has built a high-quality advisor-matching experience: a strong network of advisors, a consumer journey designed around fit, and a model that helps people move from interest to introduction.

Many advisor marketplaces optimize for volume. FinanceHQ has always been closer to the problem we care about most: helping consumers connect with advisors who may be a great fit.

For FinanceHQ prospects and advisor partners, nothing changes overnight. The experience will continue, and over time it will get better.

For advisors who have worked with or considered FinanceHQ before, we want to be clear about where this is going.

We are investing in better matching, better consumer education before the introduction, richer advisor data, and stronger feedback loops after the introduction.

That should mean better conversion, less wasted time, and more flexible models for different kinds of advisory businesses: revenue-share models for firms that want aligned economics, and efficient, data-centric lead-generation programs for scaled firms that know how to convert demand.

For Warmer, FinanceHQ adds something essential: a high-quality live marketplace on which to build infrastructure.

That means consumer demand, advisor relationships, revenue, matching operations, and the opportunity to learn from real-world introductions. A closed-loop matching system cannot be built from public profiles alone. It has to learn from actual searches, actual introductions, actual meetings, actual conversations, and actual outcomes.

FinanceHQ helps us build that loop faster.
What changes for consumers

For consumers, this means a more guided, more transparent, and more confidence-building experience.

One Warmer customer put the problem simply:

I have spent so many hours trying to find an advisor. You have no idea how time-consuming and complicated it is—and it’s so hard to know what you’re getting.

People should be able to understand their options, compare advisors more intelligently, and move forward knowing why a particular advisor may be a good fit.

The goal is not to overwhelm people with every possible advisor.

The goal is to help them make a better decision.

What changes for advisors

For advisors, this means better introductions.

Not more cold calls, not more noise. Better-fit prospective clients who have been guided, educated, and matched with more care.

Advisors should not have to flatten what makes them distinctive in order to be found. The right matching system should help surface their real strengths: the clients they serve best, the problems they solve best, and the relationships where they are most likely to create value.

For scaled firms, that means more efficient, data-centric acquisition.

For specialist and long-tail advisors, that means a marketplace model that can work even when they are not trying to buy the most traffic or serve the broadest possible audience.

If you are an advisor, we would love to talk. Whether you are a scaled firm looking for efficient, data-centric growth or a specialist advisor looking for warmer, better-fit introductions, we are building this infrastructure for you.

What changes for the industry

For the industry, this points toward a bigger shift.

Advisor marketplaces have mostly been treated as lead sources. They generate demand, collect inquiries, and route consumers to advisors.

That is useful, but it is not enough.

The next generation will look more like infrastructure: a data, matching, feedback, and transaction layer that helps consumers find advisors, helps advisors convert better-fit opportunities, supports the meeting and evaluation process, and learns from the outcomes.

That infrastructure can support different models for different firms. Scaled players may want efficient, data-centric acquisition. Smaller and more specialized advisors may need aligned economics, including revenue share, so they can participate without simply bidding for traffic.

Warmer and FinanceHQ’s long-term advantage will come from closing the loop across the entire advisor-client connection: advisor data, consumer intent, search, matching, introductions, conversations, meetings, conversion, and relationship outcomes.

This is not just a better marketplace.

It is the infrastructure for a smarter, more accessible, advice ecosystem.

What comes next

The combination of Warmer and FinanceHQ expands our reach, deepens our advisor network, and gives us more opportunities to learn from real-world matching outcomes.

There is a lot ahead.

We will continue improving the consumer experience, making advisor discovery more transparent, helping people understand what kind of advice they need, and building the feedback loops that make every recommendation better.

We will continue investing in FinanceHQ as a trusted place for consumers to get matched with high-quality financial advisors.

And we will continue working with advisors who want to grow through trust, fit, and long-term relationships — not just lead volume.

The financial-advice relationship is one of the most important professional relationships many people will ever have. Choosing that advisor should not feel random, opaque, or overly dependent on who happened to appear first.

It should feel guided.

It should feel warm.

And it should constantly get better for everyone involved.

For advisor listings, we rely on sources including public filings and data provided by advisors, and we cannot guarantee that all information is current or accurate. Advisor matching and introductions are provided by FinanceHQ LLC (“FHQ”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Warmer and an SEC-registered investment advisor. We receive compensation from certain participating advisors for introductions or referrals. This creates a conflict of interest because we have an incentive to recommend advisors who compensate us, including those who pay us more. You pay no fee to use our matching service, and advisor fees are not increased because of a referral or introduction. We do not review the ongoing performance of advisors, manage or hold assets, guarantee performance, or provide advice about specific investments.
